Purpose and participants

The competition is open to tea enterprises, industry organisations and government departments in tea-producing and tea-consuming countries.

The aim is to provide a quality reference for bulk tea traded internationally and to present distinctive origins and processing techniques for premium tea.

International Panel of Tea Tasters & Evaluation Methodology

All tea samples will be assessed by an international panel of professional tea tasters from both tea-producing and tea-consuming countries. The evaluation will follow rigorous professional tea-tasting standards and established sensory assessment protocols.

For each tea category, the assessment will be conducted using defined organoleptic criteria and evaluation procedures established under the relevant protocols adopted in the respective tea-producing countries. Depending on the category, these may include the examination of dry and infused leaves, liquor appearance, aroma, taste, flavour, mouthfeel and overall quality.

The samples will be prepared and assessed according to the applicable professional tasting procedures, with the aim of ensuring a systematic, consistent and impartial evaluation that respects the distinctive characteristics and quality standards of each tea category.
